SCL Athlete Leadership Council
The primary goal of ALC is to encourage athletes at St. Catherine Labouré School to take a leadership role at the school, in the local community and in the world, while promoting sportsmanship and a healthy attitude toward athletic competition. ALC members are active participants in many aspects of school life. They promote and encourage school and team spirit within the SCL community. Develop and support local community service projects. Use athletics as a venue for teaching essential life lessons to others. Demonstrate the initiative needed in order to be strong leaders.
ALC members are Varsity athletes in grades 7th and 8th who apply and are recommended by SCL coaches and teachers based on their sense of school and team spirit, their leadership potential, their community service activities, as well as their sportsmanship and athleticism. The members must reapply for a role on ALC each year. Adult coaches and teachers serve as mentors and committee advisors.
ALC Committee Groups
ALC has four committees that meet once or twice a month to plan service projects and other activities in the community. Each committee has one student captain and one student assistant captain and 3-5 members. All members of ALC, regardless of their committee membership, support each other during ALC events. The ALC committees are:
Spirit
This committee builds school, community and team spirit for games and athletic programs on campus and away. Members help Student Council plan and sponsor pep rallies, plan season sports awards, and provide perks for athletes each season. Typically, these members are also the SCL Student Council Athletic Chairs and work closely with the Student Council Spirit Chairs.
Community Service
This committee focuses on ways SCL Athletes can give back to their community. The ACL leads and facilitates the school’s goal that every member of an athletic team gives up a practice day to perform service in the community.
Life Lessons
This committee invites guest speakers to speak to the SCL community about lessons they have learned. On-campus new student & alumni events such as welcome back picnic and an Alumni Sports Day are supported by the Life Lessons committee. They also hold school wide initiatives such as kindness counts, etc.
Initiatives and Leadership
This committee takes a leadership role in planning and developing of the Fun Run Walk and other events/fundraisers that benefit the SCL Sports Programs. Members have the opportunity to create their own projects to support various missions.
